Are you a minority business seeking to secure government contracts? Join us as we walk you through the application process to become Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and the Encouraging Diversity, Growth and Equity (EDGE) Certifications.


Business owners will be filling out the online application through the Ohio Business Gateway, bring your log in and password.   Businesses need to have been in business for at least 12 months to qualify for any of the certifications.  We will provide assistance through one on one meetings to review and all documentation required for each type of business.

In order to begin the application, please bring as many of the following items as possible:

  • Birth Certificate (if being submitted to demonstrate race, pleas be sure race is identified, otherwise, birth certificate may be used to demonstrate biological sex)  

  • Passport, Birth Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization  

  • Form 8832 (entity Classifiacation Election Form) or Form 2553 (Election by a Small Business Corporation Form)

  • IRS SS-4 Form

  • Federal and State Taxes for the last 2 years for the business and personal. (Ohio IT 1040 or IT1040EZ, Schedule C, Schedule K-1, Schedule E, form 1065, form 1120, W-2's, 1099 forms which ever applies to your company)  

  • Distributorship Agreement(s) and/or lines of credit established with a distributor and/or supplier  

  • Loans and security agreements, including bonds and company and personal promisary notes  

  • Lockbox Lease  

  • List of certifications by other jurisdictions, agencies, or entities  

  • Management agreements

  • Professional license(s)    

  • Balance Sheet for mos recent completed fiscal year      

  • Bank Statements for previous two years      

  • Employee W-2's or 1099s

  • Copy of signed contracts, and corresponding invoices and receipts from the previous two years or the life of the business (whichever is shorter) 

  • Bank signature card or a letter, on the bank's letterhead, explaining who has signature authority for the company's bank accounts 

  • Equipment List (including vehicles) and associated title documents

  • Facility lease or ownership documenttion (if private residence, warranty deed, or mortgage payment invoice)    

  • List of subcontractors or suplliers used and associated agreements  

  • Most recent Cash Flow Statement        

  • Most recent Profit and Loss Statement

  • Resume of owner(s)        

  • Service-level or service agreements

  • Affidavit - this form will be provided in class.

  • Articles of incorporation, Articles of organization, Joint Venture Agreement, Partnership agreement and Statement of Partnership Authority which ever applies to your company

  • Operating Agreement, Bylaws or Code of Regulation ( if applicable)

  • Unit Certificates or Stock Certificates ( if applicable)

  • Unit journal or current Stock Ledger ( if applicable )  

  • For those applying to the EDGE program based on the business ownershp being a person with disability, please submit either Disability Verification Form or Letter from the US Deparment of Veteran's Affair verifying VA Disability Rating.

Ohio Small Business Development Center

The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Columbus State Community College provides entrepreneurial development assistance and high end business consulting to start-up and emerging business owners in Central Ohio, including Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Logan, Madison, Pickaway, and Union counties.The Center’s services are offered at "no cost" for consulting services and many training sessions.

The Ohio SBDC at CSCC district office is located at Columbus State Community College. Our office address is 320 N. Grant Avenue, suite 1062, Columbus, Ohio 43215, however, training events are held at various locations including Columbus State, Dublin, and New Albany locations.  Please see your event confirmation for location details.
