Novel Approaches to Soil Vapour Sampling Methods

Introduction to soil vapour sampling demonstration

10:00 Break

Demonstration of New Methods for Evaluating Vapour Intrusion

Subslab, soil vapour and indoor air sampling provide the most common lines of evidence for assessing human health risks associated with vapour intrusion into buildings.  Conventional collection methods may generate data that show spatial and temporal variability that often make site interpretation difficult.  As an alternative, Geosyntec will discuss and demonstrate high volume sampling (HVS), which is based on the concept of integrating the sample over a large volume of soil gas extracted from beneath the floor slab of a building to provide a spatially averaged subslab concentration.

The demonstration will include:

  1. High Volume Sampling equipment setup
  2. Flow measurement
  3. Measurement of static vacuum at wellhead and static probes
  4. Transient vacuum monitoring
  5. Tracer tests
  6. Sample collection (HVS and conventional using canisters)
  7. Presentation of field data collected during demonstration
