Event Details

*This is a two (2) day event - Wednesday, January 10, 2018 & Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Audience: Co-Teaching partnerships consisting of a General Education Teacher plus one of the following: Special Education Teacher, EL Teacher, Reading Consultant/Teacher, Speech and Language Consultant/Teacher, etc.

Presenter:  Virginia Babcock and Clare Wurm, SERC Education Consultants

Description:

Co-teaching holds great promise within the framework of Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) as a universal practice for enhancing student outcomes and supporting those with diverse needs in general education settings. The talents, experiences, and expertise of the co-teaching team, both shared and varied, make for powerful and dynamic approaches to instruction, particularly when paired with the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
This two-day session covers how co-teaching can effectively meet the needs of students, with and without disabilities, in the general education classroom by embedding the UDL framework within each of the six co-teaching approaches. Participants will have the opportunity to collaboratively plan rich and differentiated co-taught lessons based on the CT Core Standards, apply their learnings between sessions, and share their experiences with other participants on the second day.
As a result of this professional development, co-teaching teams will explore ways to enhance the effectiveness of their lesson planning through use of the UDL framework, maximize their instructional intensity, and improve student outcomes in their co-taught classes. A half day of follow-up technical assistance will be offered to five co-teaching teams interested in further support (e.g., observations, coaching, etc.).
