But the first question you may ask is: why should you focus on your company’s valuation at all? If your company is for sale, or in planning to be for sale, the answer is clear. But there are other reasons why owners should focus on how their company is valued.

A company that has maximized its value will, quite simply, operate in a way that drives profitability well into the future. A company that is run efficiently and effectively across all functional areas is desirable to the outside world.

All of us want a company that would bring us top dollar if it were indeed for sale, and thus having a plan in place is your number one tool to ensure you are in the best place for if and when a sales transaction will occur.

There must be seamless processes across your entire organization. Operationally, your team must function efficiently, and your financials must be in order. Your sales team must maximize revenue generated, while demonstrating optimal margins for your industry. Speakers

Joseph Finnerty, CPA is the founder and managing principal of Colm Advisory, LLC with years of experience across a wide variety of industries. Joe has advised on 75+ M&A transactions, representing private equity firms and corporations, and evaluated the acquisition or divestiture of businesses ranging in enterprise value from $5M to more than $35B. Joe formerly worked as a Director in the Deals Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in financial due diligence. Joe earned a BS in Accounting from Villanova University, and is a member of the AICPA and PICPA.

Jason Fisher is a Managing Partner at ECS. He possesses two decades of leadership, operations and change management experience with Fortune 500 companies as well as extensive cross-functional talents. He has held management positions across a wide range of functional areas for multinational companies, including in operations, marketing, client relations and customer services.
