Training Overview:

This FREE virtual training, "Non-Opioid Alternatives to Pain Management" is part four of a four-part opioid training series.

This training will explore the various evidence-based non-opioid alternatives to pain management recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most of the training will focus on non-pharmacological options for that have evidence to support their effectiveness at helping individuals manage pain. Participants will learn about the risks associated with the use of opioids for pain and identify alternative treatments supported by the CDC.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand pain pathways

2. Recognize effectiveness of types of pain treatment

3. Identify alternative pain treatments

Facilitators: Stephanie Strutner, MPH, CPS II and Rick Collins, MS, CPS

Target Audience:  Youth-serving organizations, community coalitions, youth substance use prevention programs, schools, and others working in substance misuse prevention.  Professionals in the substance use treatment field interested in learning about ways to engage in prevention strategies. Professionals in the prevention and treatment field who are interested in obtaining the Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential.   This training is only open to participants residing in Hawai‘i.

Continuing Education (CEs):  This course is pending approval by the Dept. of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division for 2.0 continuing education hours for the Certified Prevention Specialist and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor credentials.
