What is Mathathon?

Mathathon is a math challenge in which contestants solve math problems with varying levels of difficulty.

Math is a skill required in any field of study or career. Through classroom resources, and other math sources, Mathathon, a friendly competition, helps students by giving them a means to practice mathematics. The challenge positively impacts the analytical skills needed for future competitive exams and careers with mathematical orientation.

Mathathon FAQs.

Q: What are the categories for Mathathon?

Students are requested to register based on their grade level and arrive for the competition on Sunday, December 16. The 3 groups based on the grade level are as below.

Level 1: Students in grades 1, 2, 3

Level 2: Students in grades 4, 5

Level 3: Students in grades 6, 7, 8.

Q: What should I bring for onsite check-in?

You may either bring a printed or mobile copy of the registration ticket.
During onsite check-in, photo / video consent form has to be submitted prior to the competition.

Q: What is photo/video release consent form?

Our competitions are meant to promote academic excellence and recognize students for their talent and hard work. During our competitions, there will be pictures and videos taken which may be posted on our website. Students are requested to turn in a photo / video release consent form at the time of onsite check-in on the day of the competition.

Q: What should students bring to the test?

Students should bring pencils, pens, and erasers to the test. Calculators are not allowed during the competition.

Q: Can parents be present in the room when the students are taking the test?

Parents will not be allowed in the room during the test. Parents are requested to pick up their children as soon as the students complete the test and attend the award ceremony after the test.

Q: What will my child gain from participating in Mathathon?

Mathathon will help in the development of the following skills among students

  • Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Better problem-solving skills
  • An ability to set and tackle goals
  • The drive to challenge themselves and unlock their potential

Q: Can the previous champions of Mathathon participate again in the subsequent Mathathon contests?

The champion of Mathathon of a particular category cannot participate in the same category again. However, the student can participate in the higher level categories. For example, the champion of Level 1 Mathathon cannot participate in the Level 1 Mathathon again, but can participate in the Level 2 category. Also, a student who has participated in Level 2 or Level 3 category, is not eligible to participate in the Level 1 category of Mathathon.

Q: What type of questions can we expect?

Mathathon’s questions will be tailored to the grade level and category of the students, with some extra challenging questions. The objective of this test/exam is to give students exposure to types of problems that they wouldn’t normally encounter in a classroom setting.

Q: Will the test consist of a written test/exam?

Yes, Mathathon will consist of a written test/exam.

Q: Will the test be answer based or will it be multiple choice?

The exam/test will consist of multiple choice questions.

Q: How long will the exam/test be?

The overall exam duration will be 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Q: What is the schedule for Mathathon?

The schedule for Mathathon includes onsite check-in, seating of students, explanation of rules, followed by exam/test, evaluation of answers, and award ceremony.

Q: Are there any sample tests from previous years?

Sample tests from previous years are available on NSM Gurucool website at www.nsmgurucool.org and on WishWin website at www.wishwin.org

Q: When will the award ceremony begin?

Soon after the test/exam, the answers will be evaluated and the winners will be announced during the award ceremony.
