This 90-minute webinar is hosted by the Louisiana Center for Health Equity (LCHE), “Maternal Health: HerStory, Racial Concordance and Policy” on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The webinar is fueled by the goal of facilitating improved health outcomes for Louisiana women and fostering a better quality of life for women and their families. Women in Louisiana have among the highest incidence and prevalence of disease as it relates to maternal mortality, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, especially hypertension. Further, women in our state experience high rates of poverty and income inequality.

• “What is Racial Concordance and Why Does it Matter?”
• “Implications of Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2020 and Related Policy”
This webinar will be moderated by Alma C. Stewart, RN, MS, CCHC, President and Founder, Louisiana Center for Health Equity. Our opening speaker will be Kay A. Johnson, MPH, EdM, President, Johnson Group Consulting, Inc. Presenters for the webinar will include Professor Deleso Alford, JD, LLM, Southern University Law Center; Julie Morial, MD, MPH, FACP Chief Medical Officer, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Louisiana. Amanda Brunson, Director of Women’s Policy Office of the Governor will bring greetings.
Additionally, LCHE will reiterate a call to action for continuing efforts to establish a Louisiana Office on Women’s Health. We believe establishing an entity with a mandate, authority, and resources is warranted to effectuate improved health outcomes for Louisiana women and potentially foster a better quality of life for women and their families.
This event is FREE and open to the public while our target audience is physicians, medical students, nurses and other health care and allied health professionals. Registration is required. Register early. Space is limited.
Continuing Education
CNEs for nurses and CMEs for physicians are available. Participants may earn up to a maximum of 1.5 NCPD contact hours or 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ respectively. Each participant must be present for the entire activity for which contact hours or credits are requested and must complete an evaluation. See additional details below.
Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
This activity is being jointly provided by the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing Continuing Nursing Education Department (Accredited Provider) and the Louisiana Center for Health Equity (Joint Provider). Nursing participants may earn up to a maximum of 1.5 NCPD contact hours. Each nursing participant must be present for the entire activity for which contact hours are requested and must complete an evaluation to receive credit.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of LSU School of Medicine-New Orleans and the Louisiana Center for Health Equity. The LSU School of Medicine-New Orleans is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit Designation Statement: The LSU School of Medicine-New Orleans certifies this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
