Event description

Description

Using the River Wandle and its environs as a source for inspiration, this session, led by Helen Frosi, will focus on the collection and documentation of objects and experiences gleaned on walks taken around the River Wandle.

Encouraging a sensitivity to the pleasures of the natural world through the collection of natural materials and via listening, drawing and writing exercises, the session will explore the sights, smells, sounds and textures of the rich sensory landscape of the waters and green spaces at Morden Hall Park.

Participants will come away from the session with visual maps of soundscapes and the start of an archive of textures, colours and documentary writings.

In addition, taking inspiration from the first nation's of America and Australia's practices of collecting objects and making journey sticks to tell stories of travels, participants will create their own aide memoire, in the form of a “journey stick”, from items they have collected during their walks. Items such as wool, leaves, stones, seeds, feathers, etc., may be secured without glue using natural fibers/grass.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a one-hour lunch break between recording session and workshop. (Please bring a packed lunch.) All materials for the workshop will be supplied.
