Event description

Description

Experience a completely different Yom Kippur with MATANOT LEV | Gifts of the Heart.

Yom Kippur is when we return to our whole selves with Teshuvah, stop time in holy conversation with Tefillah and rise in community with our Tzedukah. Through our gathering, we renew our relationship with our spirituality, our goodness and each other.

Join MATANOT LEV | Gifts of the Heart in this unique Holy Day experience, led by Kohenet Annie Matan. We are non-traditional, post-halakhic, G!d/dess-optional and "Everybody-Friendly" (LGBTQ+, interfaith, all abilities, all backgrounds!)

Connect to yourself and your ancestors in community this Erev (eve of) Yom Kippur with a deeply Jewish, refreshingly modern, participatory and transformative sacred circle, weaving key elements of the Yom Kippur liturgy with chanting, mindfulness, self-reflection and community connection.

Attendees can expect: a radically different Yom Kippur experience*.

  • Tune in to the day of At-One-Ment with joy and gentleness, not affliction.
  • Sit, dance, meditate, chant, hold silence, and pray in a circle.
  • Connect with traditional and original, creative liturgy in English and Hebrew.
  • An invitation to pray in the feminine, and to use whatever language for the Divine resonates with your own soul.
  • Stay and pray even if you don’t have child care, with the help of our “Prayground**”. A corner IN THE ROOM with quiet books and toys. You supervise your own kids and no one needs to miss out.
  • No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

*Matanot Lev is a post-halakhic community. All are encouraged to experiment with new ways of connecting with old ideas. Always choose to participate in ways that feel good to you.

**Prayground is inspired by City Shul. As far as we know, they coined the term and have incorporated this practice in their Shabbat services.

Our community proudly includes all kinds of families: LGBTQ+, interfaith, patrilineal, Jewish, Jew-ish and those of other backgrounds who are curious about Judaism and seeking community. We welcome participants of all abilities.

Walmer Road Baptist Church is an accessible space. If you need any accessibility accommodations, please contact Michael Morgenthau at mmorgenthau@hotmail.com
