Description

Come see, learn and buy! Our annual Mata Ortiz Pottery event featuring master artist Oralia Lopez doing live demonstrations of this rich traditional pottery as well as a Pop-Up Sale of a wide selection of Mata Ortiz Pottery. This one day only event is free and open to the public

Master artist Oralia López has set the standard in Mata Ortiz for finely executed geometric pottery designs. She is most famous for her unique patterns of graduated squares and triangles, drawn with such exactness that a secondary designs of diamonds is produced. The designs are painted on white clay with black, red and white paints. Like all of the members of her family, Oralia uses paints mixed from local minerals

The Tucson Desert Art Museum celebrates the beauty and art of the Mata Ortiz pottery tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Proceeds from the sale of pottery and artwork in the Four Corners Gallery support the mission of the Museum to educate and share the art and culture of the Desert Southwest
