Masters Series: Kehinde Wiley
Thu, February 9, 2017, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM EST
Kehinde Wiley discusses his work prior to the opening of the Toledo Museum of Art showing of Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic, a major retrospective of the artist’s work. Wiley’s signature portraits of everyday men and women riff on paintings by Old Masters, replacing European aristocrats in those paintings with contemporary black subjects and drawing attention to the absence of African Americans from historical and cultural narratives.
Admission to the event is free (no ticket required) and a limited number of priority tickets, which include seating in a reserved section and parking, are available for purchase. These tickets are $25 each for Museum members and for $30 each for nonmembers.
A preview of the exhibition for TMA members will follow the lecture. All priority ticket purchases will be admitted to the preview.
This touring exhibition is organized by the Brooklyn Museum. The Toledo showing is presented in part by Welltower with additional support from 2017 Exhibition Program Sponsor ProMedica, KeyBank, and the Ohio Arts Council. The Masters Series is sponsored in part by the TMA Ambassadors.
