Join us on November 10th at 5:00pm at the UNO Art Gallery for Masters & Music: Interweaving Community with textile artist Mary Zicafoose and saxophonist Patrick Brown. Mary Zicafoose's colorful fiber art has made an impact on global cultures and communities. Learn her process and installations in 17 public spaces in Omaha. Hear Patrick Brown's musical performance and then join FOA Members for a reception after.

Mary Zicafoose is a fiber artist, a tapestry and rug weaver, a printmaker and teacher. Her tapestries and rugs span the globe from the corporate offices of Tenaska in Canada to the White House to United States Embassies on three continents. Ms. Zicafoose has worked, exhibited and taught throughout the Americas and won multiple awards and fellowships. Her recent installations include the Holland Performing Arts Center, the Buffet Cancer Center, and UNO Engagement Center. She "creates woven tapestries that are visually compelling and narrative. My image making is based on language, text landscape and symbols, color saturated and technivally layered using the complex textile provess called ikat." She blends the archetypal and innovative contemporary into textiles that span centuries of artistic tradition.

Patrick Brown is Coordinator of Woodwind Studies and Instructor of Saxophone at UNO where he also directs the Metropolitan Area Youth Jazz Orchestra. Patrick obtained his B.M. in Saxophone Performance from Appalachian State Univ, M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone) from Winthrop Univ, and D.M.A in Saxophone/Jazz Studies from UNL. Patrick also served as Instructor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Davidson College, Wingate Univ, Lenoir-Rhyne Univ, Union College, and Mitchell College. Patrick has presented at the Jazz Education Network International Conf, American Single Reed Summit, NE Music Educators Assoc Conf, North American Saxophone Alliance Regional and National Conferences, and the NE State Bandmasters Assoc Convention. Some of his performance highlights include Aretha Franklin, Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Omaha Symphony, and Lincoln Symphony Orchestra. He is a Conn-Selmer Artist who plays Selmer Paris saxophones exclusively and is a D’Addario Woodwinds Performing Artist.
