Description
Would you like to begin a meditation practice but don't know where to start? Have you hit a plateau in your established practice? Improve your meditation by working with the fundamental components of consciousness – attention and awareness. The distinction between “attention” and “awareness” is rarely discussed but a correct understanding can prove invaluable for your practice.
In this day-long workshop, you will learn:
- How to distinguish the difference between attention and awareness
- Develop a clear understanding of the Meditation Stages
- Learn how to cultivate proper motivation and a joyful attitude to establish and ensure your meditation practice flourishes
- Simple tips and antidotes to deepen your practice, even when you feel like your meditation practice has hit a plateau.
Whether you are new to meditation or are a seasoned practitioner, this workshop will give a clear roadmap that will allow you to achieve new breakthroughs on your meditative path of awakening.

The Mind Illuminated tradition combines Buddhist wisdom and modern brain science for greater mindfulness. It was developed by Upasaka Culadasa (John Yates, PhD.), a meditation master with over four decades of experience in the Tibetan and Theravadin Buddhist traditions. He also taught physiology and neuroscience for many years.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please email chloe@rimekalachakra.org for financial aid.

This workshop is hosted by three of Culadasa's authorized teachers-in-training:
Each has years of meditation experience and have spent months in retreat.
Henrik Norberg
Henrik Norberg has studied buddhist meditation for 18 years, and has led sittings groups and retreats in Europe and the Bay Area. He is currently studying under Culadasa (John Yates), and is focusing on integrating samatha-vipassana in daily life.
Brett Monzel
Brett Monzel has been practicing Buddhist meditation since 2004. He spent seven years in Soto Zen monasteries where he ordained as a monk, and later received dharma transmission. Brett has been studying under Culadasa since 2005, and co-leads a meditation group in Berkeley.
Chloë Bregman
Chloë is a meditation teacher in training under John Yate’s (Culadasa) and a yoga asana teacher in the Kuala Tantra tradition of Bhagavan Shanmukha Anantha Natha. Since 2015, she has lead the Rimé Kalachakra bay area sangha focused on the Tibetan vajrayana buddhist Jonang-Kalachakra tradition under the guidance of Shar Khentrul Rinpoche. Chloë is immensely grateful for all of her many teachers whose kindness is beyond compare from whom she has received teachings, empowerments and transmission.
