Event description

Description

In partnership with Museum Development North West.

This reflective masterclass will explore the partnership created between Manchester Museum and The Partition Museum in 2018 to create and develop Jallianwala Bagh 1919: Punjab Under Siege, an exhibition that opened at Manchester Museum in April 2019, along with two capsule versions of the exhibit in Birmingham and London.

Participants will be introduced to the approach these museums took whilst working in partnership, including the examination of Partnership Agreements and why they are an important foundation to any cross-museum working. We will also look at practical tips to support working across continents, and there will be an example of such with a live link-up with The Partition Museum. During the link-up the key staff from Manchester Museum and The Partition Museum will reflect on their way of working, and participants will be able to ask questions to help form a clear understanding of how this co-curated exhibition was imagined and developed over the course of six months!

By the end of the day participants will have a better understanding of how international museum partnerships can be formed, how sustainable co-working can happen across time zones and continents, and a selection of key recommendations based on experience from those who launched an international co-curated exhibition without ever meeting in person!
