Masterclass in Leadership Unlearning with Dr Tracey Manning and Hilarie Owe...
Tue, May 9, 2017, 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM BST
In today’s VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) the demands for learning leadership is great. Learning in organisations is going through a huge paradigm shift. It is now recognised that ‘unlearning’ is a fundamental part of both individual and organisational learning. But what is it, why is it so important at this juncture in time and how can it be facilitated?
“Deep change comes only through …. learning and unlearning. This is the kind of generative work that most executives are prevented from doing by the mechanical mindset and by the cult of the hero-leader … the one with all the answers” (Senge, 1990). With exponential technological, political, and social change; the ability to unlearn outdated assumptions, processes, or practices seems more important than ever for leading adaptively and effectively. However, while leadership writers agree on the need for individual and organisational unlearning, it has not been adequately defined or conceptualized, and most leadership training does not facilitate the transfer of training to the workplace. We aim to correct this.
