About Dr. Michael Mayes
Dr. Michael Mayes is a seasoned Human Resources and Change Management (Operational Excellence) professional having served as HR Manager and Director for 3M Corporation, Chevron Corporation, Watts Water Technologies and WMX Technologies before becoming an independent HR consultant. Mike holds a Masters in Strategic Human Resources Management from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, an MBA from the University of Redlands, California, an Master of Science in Operational Excellence from TIAS Business School in Tilburg, NL, a Master in Social Science from the University of Leicester in Leicester, UK, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of the State of New York, Albany NY.
Michael holds the following HR certifications: SHRM-SCP, CHRP, Fellow CIPD, and FCPHR and is licensed to practice in the field of Mediation and Arbitration. He received a joint Doctorate degree from Sheffield University and Business School Netherlands. Dissertation: “An Exploration ofthe Relationship between Employee Engagement and Operational Excellence” - The future of HR & Operations plays a key strategic role in understanding how recruitment, culture, employee engagement, and training, among many other things, are connected to the organization’s strategy, and ultimately, the bottom-line metrics that organizational leaders often use to measure success.
About Roy Virgen
Roy has had an extensive career in management that spans over 20 years in logistics and retail. Some of the roles he has held include:
- Floor Supervisor for Macy’s
- Retail General Manager for Proctor & Gamble
- Customer Visibility Specialist, Outbound Operations Supervisor, Training Supervisor, and Special Projects – Industrial Engineering for UPS
- District Supervisor, Health & Safety for UPS Freight
- Director of Operations for LG9 Third-Party Retail Logistics
- International Relations Manager
In 2013 he decided to use his education and knowledge to help small businesses with developing long-term strategies. Some specific areas Roy helps companies with includes Interoffice Communication, Marketing, International Partnerships, and Business Development.
In addition, Roy has spent time working in the sports industry with the Anaheim Arsenal, formerly the National Basketball Association (NBA) D-League affiliate for the Los Angeles Clippers from 2006-2009, serving as a Statistician and Assistant to Media Relation; Roy was also involved in a sales and marketing project with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011. In addition, Roy has substantial experience in Southeast Asia working and living in Vietnam from 2016 to 2019 as an education consultant, lecturer, and corporate trainer with additional experience working with organizations in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Educationally, Roy completed an MBA from the University of La Verne with dual concentrations in Leadership and Marketing, and completed post-master’s work in Educational Leadership at Fort Hays State University. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.
