Event description

Description

The Fort Worth Master Composter program is a volunteer certification program to promote backyard composting to Fort Worth residents. The Master Composter Class empowers residents to harness the valuable nutrients of their food waste to naturally improve soil, save water, and promote a healthy ecosystem.

This 2-day course includes full days on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday hours missed for worship or other services can be made up any regular Friday workday.

Saturday March 21, 2020:
9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., lunch break from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Sunday March 22, 2020:
9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., lunch break from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Location: Fort Worth Botanic Garden, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, Education Classroom

Registration fees:

$40 Fort Worth residents, $55 Non-residents

Spouses/housemates may attend the class for an additional $20, but each household will receive only one compost bin.

Five scholarships are available to certified Elementary, Intermediate, and High School teachers who are actively teaching Fort Worth students at an educational institution.

Participants will receive:

  • Excellent training on how to make, use, and even teach composting to others

  • Custom Composting Workbooks

  • C.E. Shepherd Compost Bin (if attending class both days)

Certification

Fort Worth Master Composter certification requires 20 hours of volunteer time and 20 hours of training hours. There is no time limit on completing the required hours.

Learning Hours

“Learning Hours” can be earned through attending compost-related tours, workshops/conferences and reading informational materials.

Teaching Hours

“Teaching hours” can be earned through staffing an information table at public events, teaching others about composting, giving presentations to groups and volunteering at the Botanic Garden's Compost Outpost.
