Courses

1. EKG & Xray Review Workshop

Spend an entire day focusing on learning the approach to reading an EKG like a seasoned Emergency Medicine Clinician. As a clinician working in family practice clinics, urgent care, or emergency rooms, you will develop an understanding of which EKG and X-ray findings can be referred to a specialist the next day and which ones require immediate intervention. In this course, you will go through several team based exercises on EKG and Xray interpretation and learn systematic approaches to reading both in an acute care setting. You will review multiple case presentations and 50+ EKGs and X-rays:

  • Review on EKG basics such as EKG physiology, axis, voltage and anatomy.
  • Common and life threatening arrhythmia's and heart blocks such as Afib/flutter, SVT, Bundle branch blocks and 2nd/3rd degree heart blocks.
  • Various types of EKG presentations in a myocardial infarction depending on the location of the heart affected.
  • EKG findings for various disease processes such as electrolyte abnormalities like hyper/hypokalemia, hypothermia, and more.
  • Subtle life threatening EKG findings like pulmonary embolus, ST elevated MI, Brugada Syndrome, deWinters, and more.
  • Identify common and life threatening diagnosis on chest including pneumonia, pneumothorax, congestive heart 
failure, aortic abnormalities, pulmonary embolism, and more 

  • Identify common and life threatening diagnosis on abdominal Xray including volvulus, small bowel obstruction, free air under the diaphragm, foreign body ingestion and more 

  • Identify soft tissue neck X-rays such as retropharyngeal abscess, epiglottitis, foreign body ingestion and more. 

  • Understand which findings can be treated in the doctors office and which findings require immediate ER/specialty care 

  • Understand which findings look suspicious and may require a second read or re-shoot. 


The Full Day Workshop is taught by Dr. Gino Farina, MD, FACEP and is worth 10 CME credit.

2. Comprehensive Ortho Workshop

Learn from a seasoned Sports Medicine and EM physician on diagnosing, examining and treating common upper extremity and lower extremities injuries in the family practice clinic, urgent care or ER setting. In this course, you will go through several case based exercises and learn systematic approaches to managing common orthopedic and sports injury in an acute care setting. You will review multiple case presentations and associated X-rays, learn proper physical exams, while discussing appropriate management.

  • Learning to properly perform physical exams on common injuries of the wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, knee, ankle and foot
  • Review x-ray findings of common extremity injuries.
  • Learn proper orthopedic management of these common extremity injuries.
  • Learn proper orthopedic splinting techniques and perform 5+ splints using fiberglass including posterior mold, thumb spica, ulnar gutter, etc.
  • Review the indications for common orthopedic products such as slings, crutches, immobilizers, metatarsal pads, night splints, cam walker, surgical shoe and wraps.
  • Understand which orthopedic injury can be managed in the office and which require immediate orthopedic intervention.

The Full Day Workshop is taught by Dr. Melissa LeberMD, FACEP and is worth 10 CME credit.

3. Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop

Learn from a seasoned ultrasound and emergency medicine board certified emergency physician specializing in the utilization of ultrasound in the outpatient setting for family practice, urgent care and emergency department. In this course you will learn how to perform scan on live models for various case presentations.

  • To develop a foundation and integrate the practice of point-of-care ultrasound into clinical practice in an outpatient setting.
  • Perform point of care ultrasound for peripheral IV placement, skin/soft tissue evaluation of cellulitis, abscess and foreign body.
  • Evaluation of deep vein thrombosis.
  • Evaluation of renal colic, specifically for hydronephrosis.
  • Ocular assessment for retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, and papilledema.

The Full Day Workshop is taught by Dr. Danielle Matilsky, MD, FACEP and is worth 10 CME credit.
