Description

ChessPalace will be offering a three-part master class in chess with International Master Jack Peters. Each class will present a different angle on chess which can be utilized to improve your game. Participants can then stay after class for discussion and casual games. These classes are open to amateurs and advance chess players and can be stand-alone topics. Pre-requisite: participants must know how the chess pieces move. Pre-registration is required.

June 2: Chess as an Art Form

Recognizing beauty in chess. Learn what makes a brilliancy and what earns best game prizes.

June 16: Chess as a Science

Discover the evolution of chess principles and stand upon the shoulder of giants. From the Classical to the Hypermodern eras in chess, learn about the contributions from Morphy, Steinitz, Tarrasch, Alekhine, Botvinnik, and Kasparov.

June 23: Chess as a Business

Learn to find efficiencies in chess, establishing priorities, managing the clock, calculating positional advantages, and the valuation of chess pieces in various situations.

Registration Fee:

Free for ChessPalace club members.

$35 per class (Discount pricing available for signing up for all three classes at $75. Must register by June 1, 2019.)

About Jack Peters:

Jack Peters is an International Master. He currently teaches at University of Southern California (USC). He also had a weekly chess column on the Los Angeles Times, which ran from 1982 to 2010.
