Description

Animal Sculpture with John O'Reilly

Jun 24th-28th, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Tuition: $850

Stobart Studio

Sculpting animals is a time honored tradition. The founder of the Lyme Academy, Elisabeth Gordon Chandler, began her art career sculpting her beloved dog to cope with her grief after he passed away. Sculpting an animal from direct observation is a invaluable learning opportunity. Comparative anatomy, overall structure and form variations will be explored while choosing the proper gesture or behavior to suit your vision. Workshop participants will sculpt live from a horse or a dog.

Instructor: John O' Reilly, B.F.A. Columbus College of Art and Design, M.F.A. New York Academy of Art

"John O’Reilly uses graceful lines and nuanced gestures to give his anatomically rigorous sculptures the illusion of life. The balance and subtlety of O’Reilly’s pieces highlight the functionality of form, while his immaculate fabrication emphasizes its inherent beauty. The perfect classicism of O’Reilly’s work also houses a quiet emotional truth, rewarding contemplative viewers beyond the enjoyment of his superb craftsmanship alone."- The Blue Review.

John's latest solo show was through the RH Gallery in NYC.
