Description

The award winning documentary director of Gideon's Army, Spies of Mississippi and Trapped, Dawn Porter, will talk about how she gets her subjects, how she gets her films made, and her advice to emerging media makers.

Dawn Porter is an Emmy nominated documentary filmmaker from New York City, who started out as a corporate lawyer - and left that field to make films that truly represented her expression and community. She is speaking at the DOC NYC conference this week. DOC NYC is the largest doc festival in the US. (http://www.docnyc.net/) Her acclaimed four-part documentary series “Bobby Kennedy For President” debuted on Netflix this year, and she recently joined the faculty of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
