Event description
Master Class : Mindfulness and NeuroScience with MA Science Teachers Mark Stefanski and Tania Bettis

About this Event

Thacher 101/104. Light refreshments available at 6:30 p.m.

How does mindfulness change our brains? How can we strengthen those parts of our brain that allow us to choose where we devote our attention? What are the ways mindfulness can be used as a tool to reduce stress and be more present in our lives? What are some other benefits of a mindfulness practice? Can mindfulness be applied to activities and interactions outside of meditation? In this lesson, MA science teachers Mark Stefanski and Tania Bettis will explore some of these questions and invite folks to participate in some mindfulness practices. You will experience some of the ways we introduce mindfulness to students as a part of both the Human Development and Mind, Body, Brain curricula. We intend to have folks enjoy the opportunity to participate in practices we share with students and learn more about the links between mindfulness, exercise, and the brain.

Mark Stefanski has been teaching science at Marin Academy for the past 32 years. He earned a credential as a mindfulness instructor in 2016. Tania Bettis has been at MA for five years. She teaches biology, neuroscience, and psychology. To learn more about their backgrounds, please visit the faculty profiles on the MA website.
