Description

The Howard County Office on Aging and Independence (OAI) will welcome Kerry Hannon, a nationally recognized expert on mid-life career transitions, entrepreneurship, personal finance and retirement, as the keynote speaker at Master Aging: Engage, Educate & Inspire, a reimagination of OAI's 50+ EXPO, Howard County's premier event for older adults for the past 20 years.Whether you are looking to embark on a new mid-life career, want to turn your hobby or passion into a successful business or just need inspiration to reframe your concept of aging, Hannon will deliver the motivation you need!

The author is dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives, giving them the confidence and tools to succeed personally, professionally and financially. The title of her keynote address - and her new book - is Never too Old to Get Rich - The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Starting a Business Mid-life. "When you think of business start-ups and entrepreneurship, what often comes to mind is a twenty-something launching a business out of a garage," Hannon explains, "But the highest rate of business startups actually can be found among people over age 50. Sometimes older entrepreneurs have financial motives - they need to keep working but have had problems staying in the labor market. Others are looking for something a little different in the last chapter of their working lives, and find that they can’t find it working for others."

Not interested in starting a business? No problem! In her keynote, Hannon will also share her three-part fitness program, which includes guidelines for older adults to become financially fit, physically fit, and spiritually fit - sound goals for anyone who wants to age well. Don't miss your chance to be inspired!

The keynote presentation is co-sponsored by the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks. Following the address, join the author and several local entrepreneurs for "Conversations with Kerry" an interactive discussion and book-signing event in the Health Sciences Building from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Hannon and local entrepreneurs will share useful advice on how to start a business, who should do it - and who shouldn’t - peppered with entrepreneurial success stories and lessons learned along the way.
