Event description
Mass in the Grass is a short, open-air, service of Holy Communion in the backyard of St. Paul's. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

About this Event

*REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for those attending. In the event of rain registered attendees will be notified on the day of cancellation.

"Mass in the Grass" is a step forward for our community to receive the sacrament again in small numbers in a safe and responsible way. These are open-air, outdoor, physically distant Eucharists around St. Paul's backyard labyrinth at 11am on Sundays and 12noon Monday through Thursday. Our 9am online service will remain exactly as it is so that those who are unable to return for an outdoor Eucharist or uncomfortable doing so will continue to be able to worship from home. These short outdoor Eucharists, celebrated Sunday through Thursday, offer several opportunities for small groups to come together physically distanced and safely to receive Communion. We are going over and above the Diocesan guidelines for distribution of Communion.

"Mass in the Grass" is a short, 25-30 minute liturgy of Holy Communion for which the congregation will stand or are welcome to bring their own garden chairs if they prefer. While City reguations allow for 50 people in our outdoor space, we are limiting numbers to 25 individuals/households in order to be overly cautious about remaining safely distanced while at the same time close enough to the altar to hear outdoors.

Moving forward toward the fullness of our life and worship together in this way is a major step of joy and thanksgiving, and we look forward to seeing those who can make it. We understand that many are in vulnerable health situations and will not be able to come and others who will not feel comfortable coming for other reasons, and this is absolutely fine. You are no less a central part of this community than anyone else, and we will continue to worship and pray together during this time in the ways we are able.

For your information, Diocesan guidelines for distribution of communion. Guidelines will be included at each service with bulletin and all will be reminded of them:

- All remain masked and physically distanced by household at all times by at least 6 feet (and there is room in the church yard to distance by much more)

- Communion is distributed in one kind (just bread without sharing the cup)

- Priest washes hands thoroughly before service, sanitizes them again before setting the table, before distributing the bread, and after distributing; priest stands back from altar during the Eucharistic prayer; elements remain covered during Eucharistic prayer. Everything is spoken (no singing) and priest is masked at the altar.

- Communicants approach one at a time, remaining socially distanced and masked, to receive communion standing. Hand sanitizer will be avaialable for use before and after receiving. The Sacrament is dropped into the communicant's hands so no touching occurs, the communicant then walks at least six feet away to briefly lift their mask to receive communion.
