PURPOSE:
The Gentlemen of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Kappa Tau Sigma Chapter along with the Sigma Oklahoma Foundation {501(c)(3) Nonprofit} recognized a need in the community to provide youth with Scholarship opportunities. For this reason we created two scholarships; the Moore, Derritt, Peacock Sigma Beta Club Scholarship and the Rev. B.S. Roberts Scholarship that will directly benefit from the proceeds of this event.

Moore, Derritt, Peacock Sigma Beta Club Scholarship:

http://sigmabetaclub.org

This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Parlett L. Moore (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Former International President, Former Director of Education and Founder of the Sigma Beta Club), Tim Derritt (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - State of Oklahoma Director) and Dennis Peacock (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.). This scholarship will provide funds for college or trade school to Sigma Beta Club members upon graduating from High School.

*Dr. Parlett L. Moore in the 1950's founded the Sigma Beta Club, which is Phi Beta Sigma's Youth Auxiliary for young men 8 - 18. The Sigma Beta Clubs of Phi Beta Sigma offer unique opportunities to exemplify wholesome values, leadership skills, educational enhancement, business training and development, and social and cultural awareness to male youths at a most critical stage in their personal development.

*Tim Derritt & *Dennis Peacock, under the direction of then State of Oklahoma Area/State Director Hon. Willard C. Pitts, accepted the challenge and in 1993 established Oklahoma's first Sigma Beta Club.

Rev. B.S. Roberts Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of Honorable Councilman *Reverend B.S. Roberts. This scholarship will provide graduating High School Seniors in Tulsa, OK and surrounding cities with funds for college or trade school. In addition to being a man of God (St. John A.M.E. 1950 - 1986), father, husband and grandfather Roberts was Tulsa's first black City Councilman and Charter Father of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Kappa Tau Sigma Chapter. Notably, he led a campaign to register black voters and pushed for desegregation of Tulsa’s public places. Later, Roberts served two City Council terms, from 1990 to 1994.

Phi Beta Sigma is confident that investing in our youth today will produce effective leaders of tomorrow.
