Masonry Monday: Designing a Sustainable Masonry Cavity Wall Building Envelope
Monday, April 7, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Sustainability, as defined by the AIA, includes resource-efficient construction and use processes, significant reduction of environmental impact and waste, and the protection of occupant health and productivity. This program is designed to help attendees learn how to design masonry cavity wall building envelopes that not only meet all these standards, but also help preserve or enhance the beauty of the building’s design.
At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- List and understand the AIA’s characteristics of sustainable design
- Define the characteristics of a sustainable masonry cavity wall building envelope
- Explain and avoid poor masonry cavity wall envelope design and detailing
- Define and specify appropriate materials for sustainable masonry cavity walls
