Maryland Council For Dance

The Maryland Council for Dance, Inc. is a 501(3)C organization incorporated in the State of Maryland that acts as a voice for the State in matters pertaining to dance; promotes appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of dance as an art form through disseminating information about dance – companies, performances, schools/studios; encourages performances by local and national artists and companies in the schools and the State; builds audiences for dance; and encourages and supports funding for dance.  MC/D provides educational direction by promoting dance as an independent discipline throughout the entire educational system of the State from kindergarten through graduate programs and by disseminating educational information relating to dance. It provides a medium for exchange of ideas and methods of dance among students, teachers, and artists by promoting and encouraging choreographic creativity and providing opportunities for performance and criticism; sponsors dance workshops, master classes, and the State Dance Festival; produces a bi-monthly newsletter and master calendar of dance events in the area; provides scholarships for talented young students; presents an annual award for outstanding contributions to dance in the State of MD; and advocates for dance locally and nationally.
