The University of Maryland Department of Animal and Avian Sciences is hosting a comprehensive Cattle Health and Best Management Practices (BMP) workshop Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9:00am-2:30pm at the Wye Angus Farm at 2016 Carmichael Road, Queenstown, MD.

  • Best Management Practices (BMP) - Management Records, Biosecurity, Cattle Handling and Transportation
  • Calf Health and Management
  • Cattle Health - Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD), Herd Health Management
  • Emergency Planning
  • Meat Quality - Beef Quality Assurance (BQA), 2016 National Beef Quality Audit

Agenda

  • 9:00am - Welcome, Introduction
  • 9:15am - Classroom Style Cattle Health and Best Management Practices
  • 11:00am - Optional BQA Certification Exam (25 Questions - Based on Classroom Presentations)
  • 12:00pm - Lunch
  • 12:30pm - Hands-on Chute-side Training in Cattle Health and Proper Handling
  • 2:30pm - Wrap-up, Questions

Pre-registration is required. Workshop registration is $35 which includes a hot lunch, refreshments and all educational materials.

All participants will have the opportunity to become BQA certified upon completion of the workshop. Certification is for the National BQA program, which is good for all states for three years.
