Mary Bowerman Trail Family Walk
Sat, August 26, 2017, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PDT
Botanist Mary Bowerman co-founded Save Mount Diablo in 197, her vision and decades of volunteer work were the inspiration for the 110,000 acres now preserved in the Mount Diablo Range. Celebrate Mary’s life and legacy by hiking her namesake trail, just below Diablo’s peak in Mount Diablo State Park.
The Mary Bowerman Trail, also known as the “Diablo Necklace” is the single best short trail on the mountain, and circles the peak just below the summit, providing incredible 360 degree views. Half of the trail is paved and disabled accessible, the other half passes Devil’s Pulpit and is single track but mostly level. The trail was designed to preserve the “Rock Society” rare plant species that Mary loved so well, and the decks and interpretive spots are newly renovated. Be sure to bring plenty of water, a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots recommended.
