Event description

Description

Join Tillamook Estuaries Partnership staff on an adventure through the world of fleshy fungi! This Explore Nature event will focus on the ecology and identification of mushrooms in the coastal temperate rain forest. A brief introduction to the ecology, identification and art of hunting fungus in our forests will be given, followed by a group foray to find what mushrooms abound this time of year. We will then reconvene to explore what was discovered and attempt to identify our quarry. While we will discuss edibility and other fascinating characteristics of the species we find, no mushrooms will be harvested to take home at the event.

What to bring: Proper clothing for the weather and hiking off trail (warm clothes, rain slicker, boots, hat), Mushroom gear if you've got it (knife, soft brush for cleaning, basket/bag, Identification book). Please note that a $4 day use fee per vehicle is required, unless you have a county parks annual parking pass.

This guided hike is hosted by Tillamook Estuaries Partnership as part of the Explore Nature series of hikes, walks, paddles and outdoor adventures. Explore Nature partners include volunteer community and non-profit organizations, offering meaningful nature-based experiences highlighting the unique beauty of Tillamook County and the work being done to preserve and conserve the area's natural resources and natural resource-based economy.
