TOURS

  • Rosa Parks Museum located at the site of Rosa Parks’ famous arrest, features a restored bus and other artifacts

  • Dexter Ave. Baptist Church & Parsonage This church was the site of mass meetings to organize the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott. This parsonage, once Dr. King’s home, was bombed several times during the struggle for civil rights.

  • Freedom Rides Museum The site of the attack on Freedom Riders, this bus station has been restored to how it looked in 1961.

*National Memorial For Peace and Justice The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, which opened to the public on April 26, 2018, is the nation’s first memorial dedicated to the legacy of enslaved black people, people terrorized by lynching, African Americans humiliated by racial segregation and Jim Crow, and people of color burdened with contemporary presumptions of guilt and police violence.

*Legacy Museum (A.K.A. Lynching Museum) At the Legacy Museum, in Montgomery, Mason jars display soil from lynching sites. Each is labelled with the name of the victim, the date of death, and the county where the lynching took place.

  • 16th Street Baptist Church The church was the site of the 1963 bombing that killed four young black girls.

  • Bethel Baptist Church The site of three separate bombings, this church was the headquarters for the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights.

  • Birmingham Civil Rights Institute This modern museum features a rendition of a segregated city in the 1950s, a replica of a Freedom Riders bus and even the actual door to the jail cell that held Dr. King.

  • Kelly Ingram Park the site of organized protests and boycotts, and in May 1963, was where Bull Connor turned fire hoses and dogs on protestors.

  • Dynamite Hill Birmingham's East Thomas community got its moniker because of the number of homes that were bombed in the 1960s

  • Slave Haven Undergound Railroad Museum The museum occupies the Burkle Estate, once part of the Underground Railroad, the secret network that helped people escape slavery.

  • National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Hotel Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, now the National Civil Rights Museum has been painstakingly recreated as it looked in April 1968. Precise location where Dr. King was murdered on the balcony.

  • Alex Haley House Just outside the city, author Alex Haley’s childhood home is now a museum dedicated to African American history, with a documentary film about the book and a replica model of a slave ship

Question: What time are the Departures?

Answers: Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 7pm we will start departures in Chicago, Illinois. We will give more actual estimates for the other cities.


Question: What should I wear? How much luggage is allowed?

Answer: Wear comfortable shoes, we will be doing a lot of walking. You should limit your luggage to a carry-on and small suitcase to be placed under bus.


Question: Will I be able to freshen up before Friday’s January 18, 2019 tours in Montgomery, Alabama

Answer: Yes. We will be stopping at a rest stop or truck stop to eat breakfast (on your own) and you can freshen up at the designated stop. This is wear your carry-on bag is helpful. You can pack your personal hygiene items and a change of clothes.


Question: Can I get a Refund?

Answer: No. All payments are non-refundable. However, you can find a replacement on your own. Remember, if you are sharing a hotel room-you must have written permission that they all agree to the change.
