Description

Saturday, January 19th (GWU) - Sunday, Jan. 20th (Howard U. or Col. Hgts) - Monday, Jan. 21st (Martin Luther King Day, Columbia Heights) - Pick a day that works for you!

Most of us feel it: As a democracy and a society, we can no longer work together to make a better world. If we don't change things, we are heading toward a grim future.

Let's fix it. We know how. When people start working together for a shared civic goal, divisions are healed, and a sense of hope and the power of love are rekindled. No longer helpless bystanders, we feel empowered.

What civic goal? Two out of 3 kids in DC are reading below grade level. Many more have other academic and non-academic needs. Let's get them the tutors and mentors they need to get on a path to fulfilling lives and successful careers.

All you need now to make a difference is the courage to talk to people around the city about the need, how they can get involved as tutors and mentors, and why it matters – to an individual child and to our larger world. We keep it positive but not passive and plant seeds of civic possibilities and hope.

We will gather at 10 a.m. for breakfast, conversation, orientation, and practice. Then fan out in teams to canvass at locations around the city.

LOCATIONS:

  • Saturday - George Washington University (Circle K and Alpha Phi Omega)
  • Sunday - Howard University (NCNW) or Josephine Butler Parks Center TBD
