Trusts with Dr. Marsha Goetting

Do I Need One or Not?

"To have a trust or not have a trust… aye, that is the question?" Although revocable living trusts have existed for many years, they have recently gained more visibility. You may have read newspaper ads for no cost seminars on the benefits of a revocable living trust, or perhaps you’ve seen TV commercials suggesting that everyone should have one. A revocable living trust can be an excellent tool for handling some types of financial affairs. But it is not an appropriate choice for everyone.

Dr. Marsha GoettingMontana State University Extension, will explore the advantages and disadvantages of revocable living trusts and testamentary trusts. She will also examine alternative legal arrangements that may accomplish your goals more effectively, such as a durable power of attorney. She will keep you actively involved by having you answer questions using response clickers. Dr. Goetting has enhanced her presentations by combining her appreciation of Montana wildflowers with her desire to help you remember appropriate uses of trusts.

Dr. Marsha A. Goetting is a Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist at Montana State University in Bozeman. During the past seven years she has presented over 500 educational sessions reaching over 15,000 Montanans with financial and estate planning information. She has received state, regional and national awards for her programs. She is well known for her authorship of 43 MontGuides (fact sheets) in the estate planning area. Dr. Goetting received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Family Economics and Adult Education from Kansas State University and her PhD from Iowa State University.
