Event description

Description

Dr. Brave Heart (Hunkpapa/OglalaLakota) is an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and Director of Native American and disparities research at the Center for Rural and Community Behavioral Health in the School of Medicine, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. She conceptualized historical trauma early in her career and founded the Takini Network (now the Takini Institute), a nonprofit organization in South Dakota that she serves as President, to heal the unresolved soul wounds carried by Native Americans about historical and intergenerational trauma. Dr. Brave Heart carries the values of her People in her heart and is passionate about reducing their suffering due to the effects of massive collective, generational losses and catastrophic events from European contact and colonization through culturally-based clinical intervention and research. She has been invited to share her model with tribal communities, professional organizations and academic institutions across North America.
