Market Tools for Sustainable Palm Oil - Professional Development Seminar for Companies & Auditors

Designed for companies and auditors, this course provides a solid foundation for understanding the RSPO certification system. Companies can learn to utilise the RSPO supply chain certification system as a marketing tool to transform the market for sustainable palm oil. Auditors can gain a deeper insight into RSPO certification and boost their competency on the subject. The two-day seminar focuses on RSPO’s Supply Chain Certification and RSPO Market Claims. Participants will gain a better understanding of palm oil and its business risks, and to explore emerging tools to promote sustainable palm oil. This seminar is led by Wild Asia’s Dr Reza Azmi, a leading figure in promoting sustainable palm oil in production regions globally.

This course is organised by Wild Asia, an endorsed-training provider by the RSPO. The RSPO Supply Chain Certification content is part of Wild Asia's RSPO Lead Auditor Series for professional competency for auditors.

The Seminar

The two-day seminar is designed for all companies in the supply chain, regardless of size, from palm oil refiners to end-product manufacturers and retailers who sell products containing palm oil. The seminar will be useful for auditors who need to demonstrate a good understanding of the RSPO supply chain certification system. Sustainability and procurement professionals will also gain from this seminar.

Day 1: Agenda outline:

  • What is Oil Palm and Palm Oil

  • Sustainable Palm Oil - RSPO Principles & Criteria 2018, NDPE, Zero Deforestation

  • Review of new market initiatives - Remote Sensing Tools, Block-chain, Alliances

  • RSPO Membership and making credible market claims

  • Overview of RSPO’s Supply Chain Certification

Day 2: Agenda outline:

  • Palm oil supply chain

  • RSPO Certification Systems

  • RSPO Supply Chain Certification Systems

  • RSPO Market Claims

  • The RSPO SCCS Audit Process

The seminar will be restricted to a small group and delivered through lectures, interactive activities and open sessions for Q&A. This two-day seminar will be held in Amsterdam (June 12-13, 2019) and Cologne (June 17-18, 2019).

Basic one-day event costs Euro 300 (inclusive of refreshments (coffee/tea). There are limited availability of tickets for those wanting to attend only one of the seminar days. Those who sign up for the two-day seminar will receive a 1-year online pass for the RSPO Supply Chain Certification Online Course, available only from the Wild Asia Academy.

About the Lecturer: Dr Reza Azmi is the Founder and Director of Wild Asia, a Malaysia-based environmental and social enterprise focused on ensuring that conservation and social considerations are considered in the development of regional tourism, plantation and forestry sectors. A major focus of Wild Asia is to develop new and innovative strategies to work with businesses to promote better natural resource management and equitable benefits for local people.

Dr. Azmi gained his PhD in plant ecology and systematics and started his career in conservation and the environment with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Malaysia). Early exposure to the issues of sustainability of natural resources has led to his passion for problem solving and for creating working models for sustainable natural resource use and social development.
