Mark Beverly Davis, A Concert and Lecture on the M
Event Information
About this Event
Mark and Beverly Davis have featured pieces from Ed Flower’s collection of compositions inspired by British Isle folk songs (“ Chords and Thyme”) in their concerts since 2001. In this lecture/performance they will explore the ways that Ed Flower transforms these often short, simple folk melodies into larger works of great artistic interest and emotional depth. In particular, they will demonstrate how his musical writing brings to life the meaning of the lyrics, through changing the texture, style or harmony of the accompaniment to convey a sense of story telling.
Although the original “Chords and Thyme” Mel Bay edition is long out of print, this excellent collection of works is slated to be released by Editions d’Oz.
