Marjoun: When her father is detained on terrorist charges, Marjoun is forced to live with handsome 20-something Sami and seek means to save her father. Every generation experiences a "Coming of Age"! Marjoun confronts her identity as a Muslim (what the world defines her as), her own relationship with God and comes to realize her own identity.
Director's statement. "I am devoted to telling her story in a way recognizable in the memory of James Dean. I create a new, more current signifier for America youth in the Arab-America female, thereby encouraging cross-cultural understanding.
Susan Youssef is currently a Directing Fellow in Fox Studios' Global Directors Initiative.
