Maritime at the Mechanics
Join us for sausages in the park with music and a celebration the Victorian Navy and all her might.
The Victoria Navy formed nucleus of the Australian Navy and “Cerberus” the ironclad monitor battleship was the flagship of the fleet. Along with the wooden “Nelson” she was based at Williamstown from the 1870’s. Cerberus is the only substantially intact surviving warship of any of Australia's pre-Federation colonial navies. Come and hear John Rogers, Fleet Engineer, Victorian Navy who will tell us about a time when Victorian naval defence were cutting edge.
