Event description

What is the Marine Corps Birthday Ball?

The Marine Corps' birthday is a day of pride and respect, and its celebration is one of the most revered traditions in the Corps. Each year, on November 10th, Marines around the world celebrate, in various ways, the birth of the Corps which was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Tun Tavern in 1775.

History of the Birthday Ball

The Marine Corps Birthday Ball is the Corps' official "birthday party". As the time draws near towards November 10th preparations become more aggressive as Marines begin preparations for the Ball. This has not always been the case, however. In fact, Marines have not always celebrated their founding on November the 10th.

Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps began on 10 November 1921. Want to Read More...

Second Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball in Ellis County, Texas

This year, 2018, will mark the Second Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebration in Ellis County, hosted by the Ellis County Detachment 1452 of the Marine Corps League Inc. This 243rd birthday is symbolic for the Marines and Associate members of the Detachment coming off of a very successful inaugural event in 2017, when with less than six (6) months as an official Detachment with the Marine Corps League they hosted an event that no one had ever planned and had 130 attendees in observance of the traditional Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony. This defied many peoples expectation who didn't think that it would be possible.

This event is planned as an OPEN SEATING venue where family members and friends can sit together, around each other, allowing for a more enjoyable experience.

The sequence of events for the evening is as follows:

1) Cocktail Hour: 6:00 - 7:00 PM

2) Cake cutting ceremony: 7:00 - 8:15 PM

3) Dinner is served: 8:15 - 9:15 PM

4) Dancing (Custom Sounds DJ services): 9:15 - 11:30 PM

Attendees typically arrive during the Cocktail hour to get a drink or two, take their Ball pictures and find their seats prior to the ceremony commencing at 7:00 PM (sharp).

Ball pictures are a tradition for most Marines and their spouses every year at Marine Corps Ball's. This year we are fortunate to have Bill Smith from Bill Smith Photography back to provide photographs to commemorate the evening for all attendees. Every year the backdrop will be different than the last, which will allow for a different picture look year after year. Bill will have several picture packages to choose from at great prices. Please arrive early to get your picture taken before the ceremony begins, but Bill will still take pictures after the ceremony, through dinner.

This event is designed to celebrate the birth of the United States Marine Corps; however, a secondary objective is to raise funds for the Detachment's programs and events for the coming year. A silent auction is planned for the event and any and all donations are welcome. Any donation is helpful and would be greatly appreciated. A donation jar will be available at the check-in table for that purpose.

The Detachment looks forward to this event and is excited to bring more community members on board to spend the evening amongst the Marines, providing as many people as possible a glimpse into the prestige of the United States Marine Corps and why the Marine Corps' Motto is "Semper Fidelis' (Always Faithful) and why the Marines are "The Few, The Proud"!

Please check back on this Event page for updates leading up to the event on November 10th. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying the evening together! Semper Fidelis!!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All tickets will be Checked-In at the door and someone may be ID'd if there seems to be a need. The minimum age requirement is 13 years of age or older.

2) What are my parking options at the event?

There are ample enough parking spaces for all attendees through the gate to the Main Office off of the Northbound 287 side of the highway.

3) How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You can contact the event organizer by clicking on the Organizer's contact information on the event page or emailing the Detachment at elliscountymarines@gmail.com. All emails will be responded to in a timely manner.

4) Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, as long as you pull up the ticket from the confirmation email received when you purchased your ticket there is no need to print a ticket to hand over at the door. All tickets will be 'checked in' at the door. The easiest way to get your tickets is to find your email order confirmation; tickets are usually attached as a PDF file you can print. Can't find them, having trouble printing, or not sure if you have an Eventbrite account? Just enter your email address at eventbrite.com/gettickets. You can also log into the Eventbrite app or reference the Tickets page within your account. If you think you typo'd your email address, you can check here.

5) Can I update my registration information?

You can update the information on your order (like name, email address, or answers to the organizer's questions) by clicking your order on the Tickets page. If you don't see an "Edit" link after selecting your order, the event organizer has disabled attendees' ability to change order information. Here, you can send a message to the organizer by clicking "Contact" at the bottom of the event listing. Also, if you entered a typo for your email, you can easily log in with the typo'd email address and password to update the email address on your Eventbrite account. If you don't recall the typo'd email address, you'll want to reach out to the event organizer to request they update the information on your order.

6) What's the refund policy? (Good Question - See below)

Event Cancellation & Refund Policy

We understand that peoples lives are hectic and sometimes things come up. Therefore, the Ellis County Detachment 1452, Marine Corps League Inc. (the Detachment and the Organizer) is flexible in refunding the purchase made by an attendee (Consumer) subject to the terms and conditions of this refund policy. The Detachment reserves the right to refuse/cancel registrations with or without prior notice. If the Detachment refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a refund.

This refund policy is fair and reasonable to the benefit of both the Detachment and the Consumer. This policy provides for a refund for the failure of the Detachment to provide the advertised goods and services (e.g., event cancellation) for whatever reason;

Event Cancellation by the Detachment

The Detachment reserves the right to cancel an event due to low registration, inclement weather or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If the Detachment cancels an event, registrants will be offered a full refund. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of an event, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to the postponed event. In either case, the details of the rescheduled event will be posted on the Detachment website and on the Eventbrite event page.

Registration Cancellation by Participant

The deadline to receive a refund for an individual ticket for any Detachment Eventbrite event is seven (7) business days prior to the event. Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund. Refunds will not be available for registrants who choose not to attend an event.

Refund Process

All refund requests must be made by the attendee or credit card holder to the Organizer via email at elliscountymarines@gmail.com. Refund requests must include the name of the attendee and/or transaction number and a basic reason for the need for the refund. Refunds will ONLY be issued via the original payment method received, and no other.

All refund requests will be responded to no later than five (5) business days. If the Consumer requests a refund and the Organizer does not respond by either refunding or denying the request after seven (7) days, Eventbrite may execute the refund on behalf of the Organizer.

Eventbrite Review

In the event that the Organizer fails to honor a refund that a Consumer believes is due under the applicable refund policy and/or the minimum requirements set forth above, that Consumer may request that Eventbrite initiate a refund by contacting them directly. Eventbrite will review the facts and circumstances and determine whether or not a refund is due in accordance with the applicable refund policy and the minimum requirements set forth above. Eventbrite will endeavor to complete its review within thirty (30) days of being contacted by the Consumer. All determinations by Eventbrite with respect to these Refund Policy Requirements, including without limitation the orders to be refunded and the size of any refund, shall be final and binding on both the Organizer and Consumer.

These above policies apply to all Detachment Eventbrite events unless otherwise noted in the corresponding event materials. Please read all the individual event information thoroughly.
