About this Event

The Salem College MTNA Collegiate Chapter are excited to host Marilyn Lowe in a 2-day workshop on her audiation-based piano curriculum Music Moves for Piano. Marilyn developed this series with audio by applying Edwin E. Gordon and associates' research in "audiation". Audiation means thinking music with understanding and can be compared with thinking thoughts or visualizing scenes. Gordon developed a Music Learning Theory to explain how humans learn music by learning how to audiate.

Culling from the best, Music Moves for Piano incorporates educational strategies of Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Suzuki as well as current research on building healthy piano playing skills. The ultimate objective of this audiation-based approach is for all students to learn music with joyfulness and understanding while becoming musically literate. During lessons students engage in many audiation-based activities, including improvising, building a music pattern vocabulary, and performing with ease.

Course topics:

Audiation

Acculturation
