What effects do legalized Marijuana in Michigan have on employers?

Legalization of marijuana is growing throughout the U.S. Recently, Michigan became the 10th state to join suit - forcing the question: how should employers move forward with their drug policies?

Join us for a timely event, where we will include perspectives from an employment law attorney and insurance carrier to understand how this change may impact your business.

Agenda

  • How marijuana in the workplace (medical or recreational) affects your work comp policies
  • How to manage the evolving risks related to marijuana
  • How might your insurance and claims be affected by the change in Michigan law
  • Overview of state laws legalizing marijuana, focusing on Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana
  • Overview of federal law and policy regarding marijuana
  • Concerns about the effect of state laws like Michigan’s, which legalizes both medical and recreational use, including:
    • Possible changes to policies and procedures;
    • Determining whether an employee who has used marijuana has violated company drug-use policies;
    • Risks and benefits to companies of permitting any use of marijuana by employees that is lawful under state law; and
    • Appropriate discipline for employees who use marijuana lawfully under state law.
