RETURN OF HIGHLY POPULAR SPEAKER AND SPECIALIST IN ADOLESCENT AND ADULT SUBSTANCE ABUSE.

Did you know that heavy marijuana use among 11th graders in the Bay Area is double the state average in the same category? Did you know that THC levels in cannabis leaves have reached 12% (from .7% in 1975) and 80% in oils and waxes? And that studies have shown an 8-point decline in IQ among persistent marijuana users who began in teen years?

Following the compelling and popular “Marijuana and Teens in 2016” talk last February, Dr. Danielle Ramo is returning to give an update if there should be full legalization in California. She will talk about the likely ramifications regarding access and consumption trends for teens, bringing data to bear from other states. At the same time she will expand her scope to discuss prescription drugs, notably opioids, as well as synthetics like the party drug Molly, and reveal how prevalent use is in the Bay Area, with comparisons to national levels. She will share her research and clinical expertise in adolescent drug use to recommend ways to address the issue with your teen, providing tips on how to have productive, thoughtful conversations.

Danielle RamoDanielle Ramo, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF with expertise in adolescent and young adult substance abuse. Her research includes studies of tobacco and marijuana co-use and using digital tools including social media to help young people change addictive behaviors.

Parents' Coalition of Bay Area High Schools

The Coalition began in 1994 as a grassroots response to the challenges of parenting teenagers.  We look at both teen and parent relationships. When teenagers struggle, parents and guardians often feel isolated from one another and do not know what would be most helpful for their child. The Coalition offers a variety of platforms to address these concerns.
