About this Event

We look forward to celebrating with everyone (especially the classes of 1969, 1994 and 2009, who will be back for their 50th, 25th and 10th reunions) and collecting many stories to share in the rich history of Marietta College!

Welcome to Homecoming 2019! Please stop by our Welcome Center during any of the following days and times to pick up your name tag and most up-to-date schedule of activities for the weekend.

Thursday, October 10 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Friday, October 11 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, October 12 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Your name tag is your passport for the weekend, granting you access to the rec center, shuttle service, discounts at local merchants and more. So don't forget to make the Welcome Center your first stop!

Join the brothers of Lambda Chi to jump-start your homecoming weekend festivities! Cost is $15 at the event for the pork dinner and the Harmar has a never-ending cash bar.

Special Collections Exhibit and Open House

Legacy Library: 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Inspired by historian David McCullough's latest bestseller about early Marietta, the exhibition, Ohio Pioneers: "From such beginnings, much may be expected," is available for viewing on four floors of Legacy Library. Original artwork, rare books, and historical documents describe the founding and development of Marietta, the first organized U.S. settlement in the Old Northwest Territory. Additional materials used by McCullough while researching his book are displayed in the Special Collections reading room.

Class of 1969 & Friends Valley Gem Cruise Luncheon

Valley Gem Sternwheeler, 601 Front St.: 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Join your classmates and guests while you enjoy another view of Marietta on a beautiful boat ride down the Ohio River. This wonderful buffet lunch aboard the Valley Gem Sternwheeler is a great setting for you to reminisce and reconnect.

Greenhouse Tour

The Greenhouse: 2:00 p.m.

10th Anniversary of the Anderson Hancock Planetarium Reception

Anderson Hancock Planetarium: 3:00 p.m. Planetarium Show, 4:00 p.m. Reception

Spring 2019 was the 10th anniversary of the Anderson Hancock Planetarium, so this will be the 10th Homecoming for the Planetarium. In honor of this the physics department is planning to have a reception in the lobby following the planetarium show. They will serve a 10th anniversary cake, there will also be a slideshow playing in the lobby with pictures and information about the planetarium. Meet on the Fifth St. side of Andrews Hall: 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Gallery Crawl

Legacy Library and Hermann Fine Arts Gallery 310: 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Join us at the Legacy Library for Ohio Pioneers: "From such beginnings, much may be expected," features displays of original artwork, rare books, and historical documents used by historian David McCullough while doing research for his newest bestseller about early Marietta. Inspired by David McCullough's bestseller, The Pioneers, the exhibit focuses on the initial expansion of the country from the original states into the “old Northwest” with the establishment of Marietta, the "first permanent settlement in the territory northwest of the Ohio." After the library, we will go to Hermann Fine Arts: Gallery 310 for “People of A Darker Hue,” a 14-minute short which invites the viewer to reflect on enforcement practices and policies that impact communities of color. Carrie Mae Weems, an influential contemporary American artist, narrates the film which will play continuously during museum hours. “People of A Darker Hue” complements the exhibition and the times we are living in.

Old-Fashioned House Party with Live Music: Woodstock Tribute

Gathering Place: 9:00 p.m.

The Lambda Chi Alpha alumni are presenting a night of Woodstock performed by the Nashville Alternators. These are the session pros that back up all the country and pop stars out of Nashville. They will authentically deliver two full sets of Woodstock classics in the order that they were played at the festival. Wear your tie-dye and be prepared to experience songs from Janis Joplin, Santana, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Crosby stills Nash and Jimmy Hendrix, just to name a few. Light snacks, photo ops and a cash bar will be available.

The 19th Annual Chuck Cornelius Memorial MC Homecoming 2 Mile Fun Run & Walk

Dyson Baudo Recreation Center: 7:00 a.m., Race begins at 8:00 a.m.

The 19th Annual Chuck Cornelius Memorial MC Homecoming 2 mile fun run & walk, sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, through the streets of Marietta. The course will be marked with race volunteers who will provide course direction and law enforcement agents will provide traffic control. All individuals will receive a t-shirt at the end of the race. Awards for Top Male Run, Top Female Run, Top Male Walk and Top Female Walk will be handed out.

A Homecoming tradition you don’t want to miss! Former rowers are invited to show our first-year rowers just how we do things here on the Muskingum River. For planning purposes, we ask that you to let us know if you’ll be rowing and which position you row: Port, Starboard or Coxswain. All are welcome to attend the Alumni Awards Ceremony during Homecoming. Each year the Marietta College Alumni Association gathers at Homecoming to recognize outstanding alumni. The award winners reflect the very best of Marietta College through significant professional accomplishments, service to the College or community or great contributions to humanity.

The 2019 award winners are Eileen Bowser ’50, Margaret Barker ’81, C. Brent McCurdy ’68, Toka Akiyama ’09, Ashley Wollam ’08 and Gene Haynes ’53.

The Marietta College Annual Alumni Softball Game is once again set to happen over Homecoming weekend. We will play a slow pitch game with the alumni vs. the current team. Then, we will have a picnic with the softball foster families before heading over to the football game.
