The son of a forester and a primary school teacher, Marc Mulholland was born in Portglenone, Northern Ireland. He is Dean, Fellow and Tutor in Modern History at St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford, where he has taught since 2000. He is an expert on Northern Irish History, and has recently written a biography of Terence O’Neill, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland 1963-1969. He has also written a study of the bourgeoisie in the nineteenth century, published by Oxford University Press.
