Event description

Description

Mardi Paws is a federally trademarked fundraiser for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and the name can’t be used without permission.

For 25 years, Louisiana’s famed “Mardi Paws” Parade has come at the tail end of Carnival season. This unique Mardi Gras parade designed for canine participants and their people takes place along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in Mandeville, just across the causeway from New Orleans, on the Sunday after Fat Tuesday. Noted carnival historian Arthur Hardy gives us credit for being the only krewe to parade AFTER carnival to avoid any comPAWtition!

The "Super Krewe for K-9's features hundreds of costumed canines and their companions, tens of thousands of parade watchers and plenty of poop! Throws that is...rubber and glittered poop, along with lots of beads and cups as well!

Parade registration begins at 12:30pm on the East end of the Mandeville Lakefront. The Parade rolls promptly at 2pm westward with a stop for a toast at the Reviewing Stand at the intersection of Lamarque/Lakeshore Drive. The Parade ends near Girod St./Lakeshore Drive and is about 6/10 of a mile in length.

Each participant is part of the costume contest with a chance to win great prizes and the coveted "poop" trophy. For more information concerning parade rules & regulations, how you can participate, or how you can just help out the cause, you can learn more on www.MardiPaws.com

Ian Somerhalder is an actor celebrated for his roles on the television series “The Vampire Diaries” and “Lost.” An ardent animal lover who grew up in neighboring Covington, Louisiana, Somerhalder worked like a dog to create his namesake foundation, which empowers, educates and collaborates with people and organizations that have a positive impact on the planet and all its creatures. The Ian Somerhalder Foundation(ISF) has purchased 100 acres of land near Mandeville. About 70 of those acres will be set aside to preserve the bayou, and the remaining 30 acres will support pet projects that serve the needs of animals, youth and the community at large. Scott’s Wish, which provides aid for patients with leukemia and life-threatening illnesses, is the other beneficiary of Mardi Paws events.

Please join us in our “PAWrade with a Purpose”, log on towww.MardiPaws.com for all the poop!

Common questions about registration...

By pre-registering on-line, you'll save time on parade day. You can pick up your parade packet after 12:30pm on parade day at the Pre-Registered Dogs Table. If you arrive at 12:30pm, you'll be one of the first in the parade starting line and will have to wait about an hour and half to get rolling.
If you pick up your packet closer to 2pm, you'll still have about an hour or so wait as there will be others lined up in front of you.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

No, once you have registered, the information you submitted is just for that race number.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you can update your registration in regards to dog/escort information only.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We will have a record of pre-registered dogs/groups, but it is a good idea to bring a printed copy of your receipt if you can.

What is the refund policy?

The registration fee is a non-refundable donation.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

As long as you have the receipt showing the correct number of dogs and the escort names along with payment amount, that shouldn't be a problem.
