WHAT IS MISSING MAPS?
Putting the World’s Vulnerable People on the Map
The Missing Maps project is an open collaboration of NGOs that aims to map the most vulnerable places in the developing world, so that international and local organizations, as well as individuals can use the maps and data to better respond to crises affecting the areas.
We will be mapping areas in Rwanda, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe to support long-term Red Cross programs.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Bring a laptop, a mouse and enthusiasm (mouse isn't absolutely necessary but makes the mapping A LOT faster).
DO I NEED TO BE A MAPPING EXPERT?
No! You do not need any previous experience. If you have time before you come, and you are new to mapping via OpenStreetMap, please have a look at the training videos here. We will also have volunteers ready to help you.
If you have already mapped via the web based iD editor, maybe it's time to try JOSM at the mapathon, an amazing piece of software that allows you to map more efficiently. You can download JOSM here.
WHERE IS IT?
The event will be held in the Disaster Operations Coordination Center (DOCC) at the American Red Cross located at 2025 E St. NW, Washington, DC 20006. Once you enter the building you will see a registration table right in front where you can get your name badges and be guided to the Disaster Operations Coordination Center on the 2nd floor.
Since badges are required to enter the building we kindly request you to register through eventbrite so we can be better prepared for you.
WHAT DO I DO NOW?
Get yourself an eventbrite ticket for the event. Then go and tell your friends!
We look forward to seeing you there.
