Event description

Description

SUNY is once again marching in the annual NYC Pride Parade on Sunday, June 25, 2017. We hope you will join us to showcase SUNY’s commitment to the LGBT community and the power of diversity and equality in New York!

Staff arrival and setup:

We will update you with the specific location and arrival time once our staging area and marching time is confirmed. Upon arrival, look for the sign with the SUNY Pride logo to check-in. You must bring either your Eventbrite ticket (printed or phone app) or a valid I.D. to participate.

At check-in, you will be provided with some SUNY Pride branded swag to give out to spectators as we march. We will have a limited supply of SUNY Pride t-shirts that will be distributed to participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must be registered with SUNY through Eventbrite to receive a t-shirt. You may keep a bag with you during the March for personal items (water, sunscreen, etc.) but bags should be no larger than a typical pull string backpack as we will not have space to store personal items. It is very important that all marchers arrive by our call time, which will be included in an e-mail the week of the parade. Please plan accordingly to ensure you arrive at our meet-up location at the designated time. How should I prepare for the March?

  • Get plenty of rest the night before and eat a healthy breakfast/lunch before you arrive.
  • Bring an umbrella in case of rain.
  • Bring a water bottle and a snack with you to eat before the March. Depending on how quickly the other groups move into place and down Fifth Avenue, we may have some wait time before we march. If you prefer to buy something, you can do so through local vendors around our staging area.
  • Portable bathrooms are available throughout the set up area while we wait but are limited.

How do I get there?

Participants must obtain their own transportation to and from the event. For public transportation information please visit www.mta.info. Do not drive to the March.

Only permitted vehicles are allowed.
We strongly suggest that you use mass transportation.

What should I wear?

We will be handing out SUNY Pride t-shirts to participants while supplies last. Dress comfortably, wear comfortable shoes, and apply sunscreen. Please be sure to dress appropriately as we are all representing SUNY!

How long is the March?

The March is a little over two miles – starting at 36th Street and Fifth Avenue and ending at Christopher and Greenwich Streets.

What happens after the March?

When we reach Greenwich and Christopher Streets, the March ends and all pedestrians will be directed to turn RIGHT (North) on Greenwich Street. At that time, you will be free to go!

What can I do after the march?

You can stay and enjoy the remainder of the Pride Festival or are free to explore the area on your own. For more information visit: http://www.nycpride.org/events If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the SUNY Pride team captain, Johanna Kendrick-Holmes at Johanna.Kendrick-Holmes@suny.edu. We look forward to celebrating our SUNY Pride with you!
