Marathon Reading Series featuring G Luce, R Bishophall and S Mockler
Overview
Join poets Gregory Luce, Rebecca Bishophall, and Susan Mockler for an online poetry reading Wednesday November 19 from 7-8pm to support Day Eight’s literary marathon for DC youth.
Day Eight’s Literary Marathon for DC Youth is an online fundraising campaign created to raise support for youth literary programs. Each poet featured in the reading is a “runner” in the campaign; they have each made a donation and committed to raising matching funds.
Gregory Luce is the author of five books of poems: Signs of Small Grace, Drinking Weather, Memory and Desire, Tile, and Riffs & Improvisations. Gregory is the co-founder of Washington Unbound and an editor of the Mid-Atlantic Review. His poems have appeared in print and online journals including Kansas Quarterly, Cimarron Review, Innisfree Poetry Review, If, Northern Virginia Review, Juke Jar, Praxilla, Little Patuxent Review, and Buffalo Creek Review, and in a number of anthologies. Gregory has serves a faculty member in a number of Day Eight’s programs for youth, including the organization’s summer Writing Camps.
Rebecca Bishophall is the co-author of Breaking the Blank, published in 2023 by Day Eight. Sistah Joy, Poet Laureate of Prince George’s County, Maryland described, “Breaking the Blank is a contemporary treasure.” Rebecca has featured in numerous poetry reading series and events and works in member services for a non-profit organization. Rebecca is a past director of Day Eight’s Women and Girls writing program, and writer in residence at the summer Writing Camp.
Susan Bucci Mockler’s poetry has appeared in literary journals including the Mid-Atlantic Review, Maryland Literary Review, peachvelvet, Maximum Tilt, Pilgrimage Press, Crab Orchard Review, Poet Lore, The Northern Virginia Review, Gargoyle, The Delmarva Review, The Beltway Poetry Quarterly, The Cortland Review, The Paterson Literary Review, Lunch Ticket, Voices in Italian Americana, and more. Her poetry collection, Covenant (With), was published by Kelsay Books in 2022. She teaches writing at Howard University and helped initiate the partnership between Day Eight’s literary magazine, the Mid-Atlantic Review, and Howard University.
