Description

This workshop is designed to improve marathon runners’ mental preparedness. Athletes will learn about and experiment with mental strategies for better race day performance. Additionally, tips for dealing with tapering and anticipatory race day anxiety will be addressed.

Influenced by the mindfulness, acceptance and commitment approach, attendees will:

• Identify personal training/race day strengths
• Identify obstacles and mental challenges to feeling confident during training/race day
• Develop personalized strategies to cope with challenges and obstacles
• Practice visualization
• Define short and long-term goals

You have logged your miles, built your endurance, and increased your fitness. You are physically race ready. Now is the time to focus on your mental preparedness and improve your mental skills strategies to get you through the tough parts of your race. Dr. Michelle Montero will provide tips for mental strategies and work with participants to craft their own race day mental strategies. The workshop kicks off the last week before the Chicago Marathon, however half marathon, ultra marathon, other distance runners and tri-athletes may benefit from the same mental skills training.

Pastries and beverages will be provided. BYOC (Please bring your own lawn chair.)
