About this Event

The Urban Economic Development Association of Wisconsin, Forward Community Investments, and the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development will co-host Kirsten Delegard and her colleague Kevin Ehrman-Solberg of the Minneapolis-based research group, Mapping Prejudice for a informational session around how racial covenants were used by real estate developers in the 19th and 20th century to prevent people of color from buying or occupying property in Hennepin County, Minneapolis. She will also discuss how these covenants helped to remake the racial landscape of cities across the US, including Milwaukee.

Delegard is a public historian working to make connections between the past and the present in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is co-founder of Mapping Prejudice, a team of geographers, historians, digital humanists and community activists seeking to expose structural racism in Minneapolis.

We will also hear from the Milwaukee-area group, Divided by Design, on their efforts to develop a school curriculum for middle and high school students that teaches the history of segregation in this country.
